Starting in the village of Firle, written about in the 1086 Domesday Book, we head East around the historic Firle Place. We turn Southwards taking a nice steady ascent past Firle plantation towards the ancient burial ground on the crest of the hills. We head South-East along the South Downs Way before dropping into a beautiful vista of rolling hills. We take some time to have a break before heading North. We pass by Norton Top and the Neolithic Five Lords Burgh on our route up towards Alciston. Once we’re back on the South Downs Way ridge we then transverse down the hill, parallel to Firle Beacon, before heading back to the car park (or pub).
