Day hike visiting the ancient and iconic Cissbury Ring.

Day hike: Chanctonbury & Cissbury 17.5km. Starting at the car park in the hamlet of Wiston we head West alongside the foot of the South Downs. We then transverse along Chanctonbury Hill towards the Bronze age Chanctonbury Ring Fort. After spending a little time exploring around the fort we head South West along the South Downs Way footpath. After a few kilometres of hiking we then head back uphill towards the majestic and ancient hillfort of Cissbury Ring. We spend some time strolling around this historic site and take the opportunity to have some lunch with grand views over the area. After a well-earned bite we then stroll through Stump Bottom valley before taking a long uphill North-East. This path takes us along the Monarchs Way, a route used by King Charles II to evacuate after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester. Finally we get back on the South Downs way taking us back to Chanctonbury Ring where we will drop down to the car park. Hike Time approx. 6 ½ hours including lunch. Distance 17.6km.
